Burrell Boom is a small but growing town north of Belize City, with a population of about 1000. While there are several churches in the area, there is only one school, Burrell Boom Methodist School, which sees kids age 4 -14. Total enrollment is 250.

In the Belizian School system the Headmaster is an important community position. In 2004 the Headmaster’s cottage for the Burrell Boom School burned, leaving only the slab and a burned-out cistern.

Fortunately, the Church had the foresight to have had a partial-value insurance policy on this structure, so of course a claim was filed. That claim was not settled until late 2005, and it was for an adequate amount to cover the materials for the new structure, but not the labor.

Consequently, the Church has asked the Belize Mission Project, as the formal representative of UMVIM in Belize, to assist in finding willing persons to provide labor this summer to rebuild the Cottage. (The Belize Project is a tax-exempt 501.c.3 non profit organization, with formal arrangements for wholesale airfares to Belize from Miami and Houston)

If you are called to go on a mission trip this summer, especially if you are part of a smaller church, or one with an inadequate missions budget, then this project is for you! Individuals or smaller teams of 3-5 persons: this is perfect!

We have group accommodations with a super kitchen and mens, women shower. (pictures)
