2009 Team Projects

Belama Chapel 2008

The Methodist Church in Belize has a detailed plan for growth in the next 5 years, so projects exist in almost every major town.  However, President (Bishop) Goff has asked Maggie Patchett and the BMP to review all them all and set priorities for 2009.  Here is the list that President Goff has approved.

BELAMA CHAPEL      This small but growing congregation is just north of Belize City, comprised mainly of city-based church members who have moved there.   Already they have raised enough through local fund-raisers to pour the slab and erect walls, and have started fund-raising for the roof.  Approximately seven UMVIM TEAMS are needed to help finish this small chapel during 2009, with an anticipated dedication no later than Christmas.  Because of the location near the airport, Team Leaders will find this easy in and out.  Walking distance guest house.  Vehicle rental optional.  Easy local mid week and weekend tours if you desire.  Very reasonable rates.

WESLEY LOWER SCHOOL and CHAPEL.  This project is directed at the Historic Original Cathedral and Lower School in the heart of Belize City, that has had many years of neglect.  As part of a Conference wide program, five teams are needed for various painting, repair, and minor additions to these structures.   Urban setting.  Very unique trip for most UMVIM teams because this is in the heart of Old Belize City.  Guest House accommodations are excellent and walking distance to the work site.   Safe.  Early reservations (i.e. before March 1 are requested as the primary hotel will fill up, we have alternates but not as good for the money).  (Photo coming soon)

Ongoing projects, not priority, and the lead conference:
Corozal Guest House (Missouri)  Punta Gorda School (Kentucky) , Dangriga Chapel and Manse (Oklahoma).

ALL TEAM LEADERS regardless of Conference are respectfully requested to keep the Bishop’s Representative Maggie Patchett informed of your team plans.
